Der Zweite Thessalonicherbrief

by Tobias Nicklas

Book review

This new commentary understands 2 Thessalonians as a pseudepigraphic writing which reacts on a crisis: Early Christian prophets proclaim that "the Day of the Lord has arrived," and they base this claim on Paul's authority. Paul's Second Letter to the Thessalonians not just tries to rescue Paul's heritage, but develops important ideas about the end of times, the "Lord" and his relation to the community. While the Letter is usually known as a witness for how early Christians handled the delay of Parousia, Tobias Nicklas sees a clue in the text's new interpretation of the present time in light of the future.
